Obituary for Walter Vaughn Goodine

Woodville – Walter Vaughn “Plut” Goodine, 79, died peacefully at home with his wife at his side on February 8, 2022. He was born March 7, 1942 in Island Falls to Bessie (Durgan) and Walter “Buster” Goodine.

Walter grew up in Stacyville and attended the one room school house with all his siblings in the same room. He obtained his GED in the Army.

At 18, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam Era. After serving his country, he came home to Millinocket and went to work at G.N.P. company working his way up to Master Journeyman Machinist and loved this job with a passion.

Walter was born to fix anything that moved. He could build, repair, and invent anything. Walter even built his own home from start to finish, and a camp on Mattawamkeag Lake. Boat motors, cars, lawnmowers, snow sleds, ATV’s etc., if they stopped, he got them running again.

He owned a Piper cub airplane and learned to fly and repair that too. Walter was an ace pool player.
He loved to trap, fish, hunt, tie flies, load shells, and go snow sledding. He taught all his children to do these things and enjoy them with his same passion. Walter’s spirit of adventure and exploration lives on in his children.

They have wonderful memories of clamming, lobstering, and deep-sea fishing in Eastport, trolling Mattagamon Lake, fiddle heading Lunkasoo, smelting in ice shacks on Pleasant Lake, sleeping in shacks ice fishing on Eagle Lake, fly fishing at Sourdnahunk, camping trips, and a lot of back road riding.
Walter was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., V.F.W., American Legion, and the Elks Club all in Millinocket, ME.
Cribbage, pitch, Texas hold’em, and poker were his passion the last twenty years. If he wasn’t playing cards at the club with his friends, he was playing cards with his sisters, or friends around a kitchen table.
Walter is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Blake Goodine; son, Brent (Julie) of Woodville; daughter, Kimberly-Ann Lynch (fiancé’ Craig) of Old Town; son, Walter D. “Wally” of Glenburn; son, James (Jamey) of Passadumkeag.
