Obituary for Sandra L. Russell

VEAZIE - Whether you called her Sandra, Sandy, or Lucy, she always responded with her beautiful smile. Sandra L. Russell passed away peacefully on May 15, 2022, after a long illness. Born on March 29, 1939, to Harold and Harriett (Howes) Anderson in Caribou, Maine, she graduated from Winterport High School in 1957.
Following graduation, she became a domestic engineer, a cook at Brewer Variety, and sales clerk at Agway, where she met her beloved husband of 37 years, Wendell "Bunny" Russell Jr. Together they settled in Orrington, where they shared a home on a tranquil stream which they both loved.

Sandra had a heart of gold and genuinely cared for people of all walks of life. She was generous with her time and always kept busy helping those in need. Her love of nature was evident in the places she chose to call home. Camp on Hopkins Pond was a relaxing place for her where family and friends gathered to create fond memories that are forever cherished.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel Bean and his wife, Dianne of California, and John Churchill Jr. of Orrington; her daughter, Michelle Joyce and her husband, Patrick, of Veazie; stepsons, Lance Russell and his wife, Lee, of Queensland, Australia, Guy Russell and his wife, Debbie, of Winslow; fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Rachel Brazier and husband, Earl, of Hermon; and her sister-in-law, Dawn Beatson of Belgrade. Sandra was predeceased by her daughters, Laureen and Julia; stepson, Shawn; and her husband Wendell.

In lieu of services, anyone who wishes to honor Sandra's memory can make donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Condolences to the family may be made online at memorial-alternatives.com.

God looked around His garden
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
and lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered "Peace be Thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
