Sally J. Mathews, 60, died on January 23, 2022 in her family home in Bangor, Maine. She passed peacefully with her family around her and her mother holding her hand.
Sally was born September 4, 1961 in Bangor to LaForest E. Mathews III and Ethel M. Mathews. Sally graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1979; and received a degree from Beal College in Bangor.
Sally happily lived and worked in Poland, Maine most of her life. Sally enjoyed camping, volunteering and photographing wildlife in Baxter State Park. She loved riding her prized Harley trike around Maine and gem hunting - rock collecting with special friends. She enjoyed researching her family genealogy. We remember her helping one close friend find her father with her Ancestry knowledge. Sally will be remembered as a caring person, even giving a kidney to a family member.
Sally is predeceased by her father and her sister-in-law Mary. She is survived by her mother Ethel, her three brothers: Kenneth, Jimmy and his wife Julie and Gerald and his wife Janice, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-brother Jeff Ashey. Her wishes were to be cremated, and then buried by her father in Pine Grove Cemetery in Bangor, Maine.
Family and friends will have a memorial gathering this summer. In lieu of flowers, we request donations in her name to Baxter State Park or a Cancer Research foundation of your choice.
