Obituary for Kristi Jo "Kritter" Sickles

BANGOR - Kristi Jo “Kritter" (Pelkey) Sickles, 61, died unexpectedly February 3, 2023, at her home. She was born January 6, 1962, in Presque Isle, Maine, the daughter of Phillip and Augusta (Getchell) Pelkey.

Kristi was born and raised in Aroostook County or “God's Country”, as she lovingly referred to it. She left Presque Isle for a while to explore Maine but returned where she attended cosmetology school, in Caribou. She worked as a hairdresser for several years, before moving to Bangor to be closer to her parents and daughter. In Bangor, she discovered she was a natural caregiver and found her calling working in mental Health. She spent several years working at DDPC, as well as other in-home caregiving roles.  Through all her accomplishments, her greatest one was her daughter, Morgan.

Kristi was truly a bright light in this world. She loved with all her heart, which made her an amazing mother, family member and friend, creating many lasting friendships from all walks of life. She always had a positive outlook and encouraged everyone to be their true self-just as she was. She was one of a kind and could always make you laugh until your cheeks hurt with her sassy attitude or many jokes. She loved joy riding on the backroads of Maine, typically with the windows down and the tunes cranked. You were lucky if you got to experience this with her and likely wondered where you were in Maine. She always stopped to smell the flowers or check out the views; a true lover of mother nature. She was always interested in learning about any and all things.

In addition to her parents, Kristi was predeceased by her dog, Hazel Mae. She is survived by her love, James “JC” Corey; her daughter, Morgan Sickles and her boyfriend, Adam Toner, of Bangor; two grandchildren, Bailey and Britney Toner; three brothers, Keith Pelkey and his wife, Lisa, Kevin Pelkey and his wife, Mary and Kent Pelkey and his wife, Wanda; several special nieces and nephews, special aunts, uncles and cousins; along with a few special friends, Shelly, Penny, Hollie, Bridgette, Rhonda and Gail. If we were to list everyone that meant something to her, it would take up pages. If you ever crossed her path, she considered you a friend.

A Celebration of Kristi’s Life will be held in Presque Isle, Maine this summer, at a date and time to be announced. She wanted nothing more than to have everyone celebrate her and not mourn her. We will update information as it becomes available. If you would like to make donations towards the party you can mail them to Morgan Sickles at 666 Finson Rd. Lot 145 in Bangor, ME. If you would like to donate in her memory, she personally donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The American Diabetes Association.
