Obituary for Gloria Young

GLORIA ALICE (KANE) YOUNG

GLENBURN - Gloria Young, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 28, 2022. She bravely battled Alzheimer’s for fifteen years and departed her earthly life peacefully at home with her loving husband by her side. It is with deep sadness we grieve her death, but we rejoice in knowing she is healthy and whole in heaven and we will see her again.

Gloria was born on July 3, 1932 in Ellsworth, the daughter of Margaret and Forest Kane. She graduated from Ellsworth High in 1950 and married her sweetheart Elwood on Valentine’s Day, 1951. She was a faithful wife and devoted mother as she raised her children and kept her home in order while her beloved husband served his country in the US Navy on frequent overseas submarine missions.

Gloria spent her life serving the Lord and helping others, especially those in need. She never considered anyone a stranger and constantly opened her home and enjoyed making homemade meals for others. She always served at her church whenever there was a need, and she boldly shared her faith in God with everyone she met. Even in the midst of Alzheimer’s, she still proclaimed, “Jesus saves!”

Gloria Young is survived by her devoted husband, Elwood “Joe” Young. They have shared 71 years of marriage and have blessed their family with a beautiful legacy of love and commitment.

She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Beth Young of New Orleans, LA, son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Debbie Young of Ellsworth, and son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lynn Young of Glenburn; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Robb Egel of Lynchburg, VA; nine grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and one great grandchild; sister-in-law, Ruth Kane, a sister-in-law, Connie Pierce and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Gloria was predeceased by two brothers, Reginald Kane, and Charles Robert Kane.

A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Maine Coast Baptist Church in Ellsworth with Rev. Aaron Martin, officiating. All are welcome. Condolences to the family may be expressed at Memorial-Alternatives.com.
