George F. Moran died on January 22, 2023, at his Bangor home after a brief struggle with cancer.
He was a devoted husband, a loving uncle, a great boss, and a true friend.

George was born in Pittston, PA to George Edgar Moran and Mary (Hopkins) Moran on April 30, 1950. He grew up in New Milford, NJ, and graduated from New Milford High School in 1968. In 1972 he moved to Maine to attend the university.

George met his business partner, Stephen Hammann in 1975 and together they started The
Waterworks, a small waterbed store in Orono, Maine. In 1981 George married Janet Speranza, who had followed him to Maine after graduating college in Michigan. She joined the business in 1984. Together George, Stephen and Janet grew the company which ultimately became The Bedworks of Maine, a furniture manufacturing and retail business in Bangor/Brewer.
His life centered around taking care of others: his family, his friends, his employees, his neighbors.

He loved working on his 1957 pick up truck, World War II history, making wooden toys, and sailing. His favorite quote was from The Wind in The Willows when Water Rat says, “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats”.
He was one hell of a guy.

George is pre-deceased by his parents, his sister Dolores Purvis, and his niece Eileen Purvis.

He is survived by his wife Janet Speranza-Moran, his sister-in law Linda Speranza, his nieces Maggie Calderwood, Heather Batey and Jessica Drews, his great nephews, Taj Purvis, Tyler Batey, Alex Batey, Jakob Grey-Purvis, Eddie Grey, Silas Grey and his great-great niece Zoe Purvis.
